Child Labor

What a busy day we had yesterday. I went over to Jessica’s at 9 AM to sit with Jacob but we realized that she needed to come out to our house to go to Costco to pick up her Christmas cards so she just brought him out to my car (I have an infant seat of my own now) and I took him home. Then she and Ryan came an hour or so later. We went to Staples so Jessica could buy address and mailing labels to print out for her envelopes and then we went to Costco to pick up her cards. While there, I bought a new package of gift cards for my Christmas presents since Kanan chewed my other ones up. While Jacob and Ryan slept, Jessica worked on her labels on our computer and I finished up Christmas cards to our family and friends and Jeff took them to the post office. Yesterday was the busiest day of the year for letters and packages.

The reason I titled this post child labor is because when Ryan is here, I’ve gotten him into a routine of “helping” me with little jobs around the house. He loves to help me water plants. I get out a little watering can and he likes to water my Iceland Poppies and also an indoor orchid. While outside in the front yard, he loves to go to the mailbox and get the mail. His favorite job is feeding the dogs their dinner. He puts their food in their bowls, adds a tablespoon of pumpkin and when they’re though, he gives them a jerky treat. He always picks up the bowl and hands it to me so I can put it on top of the refrigerator where we keep it. You can see it in his face that he feels really important helping with these tasks.

Will try to catch up on visits today. I’m feeling really behind on Christmas this year. We have our family party this Sunday so I have to start getting the house ready for that. Still have lots of presents to buy, too! Despite my best intentions, Christmas always seems to sneak up on me and I can’t believe it’s only 10 days away!

    Hi Darylynn;

One store I miss going to is Costco. My sister-in-law and I used to go every week when I was living in San Jose. I never came out empty handed.

Reading about you and Ryan reminds me of myself and Dominic when he was a child. He loved helping me around the house. Great memories for me and they will be great memories for you when Ryan grows up.

Have a lovely day my friend. Hugs

    Hi Darylynn,
That is so cute about Ryan helping you with your daily duties. Both Paul and Justin use to felt so much pride when they would help me around the house too! I can picture Ryan’s face ;) I can’t believe Christmas is next week either. I know one of my Christmas gifts LOL I was telling Lisa last night that Best Buy has a deal when you get a new blue ray dvd player you get a free copy of The Hangove,r my favorite movie of the year and I told her that I was thinking of going this weekend to get it. Aww, she had to tell me that was one of my gifts from the two of them. Woo hoo! Hope you get all shopping done and don’t stress to much! Have a wondeful day!
    Hugs, Dru

Do not worry, we all feel behind this time of the year.

Kids love to help if they get started out early enough. I agree it makes them feel important and needed, two things we all need I guess.
I read that the postoffices are so overwhelmed that some were ignoring mail. Wonder how that will end up?
Jessica’s card is sweet. Makes it nice for people to see how a family changes over the years.
    Have the best day.
    Hugs

Good Grief, did I not comment? I have visited you already today and thought I’d left a message before I was called away (or should that be bellowed away… ‘muuuuuuum, I need pottyeeeeeeee’!)

I love it when Magoo helps me out. She just loves to help sort out laundry. She takes on this really serious face that shouts ‘right. got to get on with this job, it’s hard work but someone’s got to do it’, and off she goes. If I say to her ‘put these socks in your sock drawer’ she trotts off with her serious face and rushes back smiling, to let me know the job has been done! I love it. She often wants to wash up for me, but I stop her for two reasons. The first being the fear of broken glass, and the second being that I want her to just enjoy being a little girl and let me do the work. Plenty of time for that later, when I make her work for her pocket money!!!
    Mum of the Year!!!

Have a super day, bedtime for me! xxx
